Verdict

This looks an excellent opportunity for THICKTHORN TOM, who whilst a somewhat fortunate winner at Stratford 4 days ago, has proved himself a much-improved model since switched to fences and he ought to take some stopping under a penalty. Atreides is in better heart than the bare results suggest this season and this drop back in trip rates a plus. Thank You Blue also isn't out of things.

Much improved over fences, making it 2 wins from his last 3 starts equipped with first-time blinkers at Stratford (19f) 4 days ago. Took advantage of main rival's last fence blunder then but he appeals as the one to beat once more under a penalty.

Won back-to-back small-field handicaps in December and in better heart than the bare results this season, appearing to find the 23f trip stretching him when fifth here at the beginning of the month. This return to shorter rates more suitable provided he jumps better than last time.

Completed a quick-fire hat-trick over hurdles at Ludlow in February and ran better than he had on his return to chasing when staying on gradually for third at Cartmel (21f) 3 weeks ago. Much lower mark to operate from in this sphere but yet to scale same heights as he has over hurdles.
